Santander Cloud: Innovation and Revolutions Bringing Customer Convenience

Grupo Santander, one of the world's leading financial groups, is making significant strides in boosting operational efficiency and driving innovation through its cloud adoption strategy. The focus is on the implementation of the Optimized Hosting Environment (OHE) platform, a flexible, scalable, and secure cloud solution that is helping standardize software architecture and development.

The OHE platform, part of a larger initiative named Plard, is designed to ramp up cloud adoption. According to the latest reports, 60% of Santander's global IT infrastructure has already been migrated to the OHE platform. The goal is to complete the cloud migration by 2023.

Santander's corporate culture emphasizes continuous training and the implementation of state-of-the-art methodologies. The cloud adoption project is no exception. The Technology & Operations teams at Santander have opted for products ALM (Application Lifecycle Management) and CaaS (Container as a Service) to bring new products to market quickly. The aim is to increase the total volume of deployments to Production using ALM Multicloud by 100% in 2021.

The cloud adoption strategy is aimed at achieving ambitious savings and efficiency targets associated with the execution of the Cloud adoption strategy. By enabling the use of cutting-edge technologies, OHE aims to reduce operational risk and eliminate hardware obsolescence. This, in turn, helps Santander unite as a global group with a multi-country solution on a single platform, offering innovative, customer-focused services and applications with faster response times and a readily-available cloud infrastructure.

The cloud service efforts of Santander are focused on innovation, with high-performance teams prepared to deliver new functionalities using the Cloud (both public and private). The cloud adoption strategy aims to accelerate the deployment of Public Cloud solutions and new OHE products.

Santander's digital transformation is not limited to cloud adoption. The group has migrated more IT infrastructure to the cloud than any other large European bank. The bank's data & AI-first strategy is being accelerated through collaborations such as the one with OpenAI.

Moreover, Santander is recognised for its innovative branch concept, Work Café, and its commitment to the circular economy. The bank's Santander X initiative awards prizes to the most innovative companies in the circular economy.

While no comprehensive ranking of European banks by cloud adoption percentage is publicly available from recent sources, Norway's DNB Bank is notable for its rapid cloud adoption. DNB Bank expanded its strategic collaboration with Infosys to accelerate its digital transformation using cloud technologies, positioning it as a leader in cloud adoption in Europe.

In conclusion, Santander's cloud adoption strategy is one of the fastest in the world and aims to establish a common technology architecture, simplify and modernize infrastructure, and reduce total cost of ownership. The bank's commitment to innovation, customer focus, and digital transformation is evident in its approach to cloud adoption and its wider digital strategy.
