Sky to Cut 600 UK Jobs Amidst Content Shift
Sky is set to cut 600 jobs in the UK as part of a significant reorganisation. This move will impact a total of 900 roles, with the majority expected to be redundancies.
The cuts, which will affect various UK businesses, come on the heels of around 3,000 job losses since 2023. Many of these positions were in traditional areas such as satellite dish installation engineers. Meanwhile, Sky is preparing for a major change in its content offerings. At the end of this year, it will lose the exclusive right to broadcast HBO programmes, but it has secured a long-term deal to offer Warner Bros Discovery's HBO Max streaming service in the UK.
Despite these changes, Sky has been expanding its product range. Services like Sky Glass and Sky Stream now account for more than 90% of new TV subscriptions since Comcast's acquisition.
Sky's reorganisation will result in 600 job cuts in the UK, with another 300 roles potentially affected. The company is also adjusting its content strategy, losing exclusive HBO broadcast rights but gaining a long-term deal for HBO Max. These changes reflect Sky's evolution since Comcast's takeover.
