Solar Innovation Drives Germany's 20 MW PV Plant Boom
A 20 MW photovoltaic plant generates around 22 GWh of electricity annually, earning about 1.3 million euros. Innovative designs and storage solutions are transforming the industry, with market demand driving Germany's solar expansion.
Traditional south-facing plants produce consistently but may miss peak market hours. New designs, like east-west orientation, can make feed-in more consistent with market needs. This can increase short-term revenues, as seen in a 30 MW plant earning around 1.6 million euros despite a 20 MW grid connection.
Battery storage, now more affordable, provides additional revenue on spot and reserve markets. Combining a plant with a storage system can result in extra profit, up to 1.7 million euros. Rudolf Reicher, founder of r2b Energy Consulting GmbH, advises on such optimized configurations. However, conflicting objectives and grid connection constraints can hinder large-scale implementations.
Photovoltaic expansion is vital for Germany's climate goals and is now market-driven. Innovative system designs, storage solutions, and grid connection strategies can maximize revenues. Despite challenges, the industry is evolving to meet demand and regulatory targets.
