South Africa's New ETA System Launches This Month
South Africa's Minister of Home Affairs, Leon Schreiber, will unveil the new electronic travel authorization system (ETA) at the Tourism Business Council of South Africa (TBCSA) conference on September 18, 2025. Initially, the ETA will apply to travelers currently eligible for an electronic visa (e-Visa).
The ETA, set to launch later this month, aims to digitalize and automate visa processes in South Africa. It will use artificial intelligence to enhance security and streamline procedures. The system will roll out progressively from late September, starting at OR Tambo International Airport and Cape Town International Airport.
Initially, the ETA will cover travelers from 33 nationalities eligible for an online visa. The exact list of these nationalities will be revealed at the official launch. Minister Schreiber will announce the details at the TBCSA conference.
The ETA's launch is expected to simplify travel to South Africa and strengthen border control. Travelers from the eligible 33 nationalities can look forward to a more efficient visa process starting late September.
