SpaceX's 11th Starship Flight Test Aims for Key Milestones on October 13
SpaceX is gearing up for its 11th Starship speed test, scheduled for October 13. This suborbital flight will mark several milestones in the company's quest to make space travel more affordable and accessible.
The 11th flight will mimic the path for future Starship flights back to the Starbase site, including a dynamic banking maneuver and a test of the subsonic guidance algorithm. SpaceX will livestream the test on its official channels. The Super Heavy booster for this flight has previously flown in the eighth speed test in March 2025, demonstrating SpaceX's commitment to reusability.
During the flight, the upper-stage Ship spacecraft will deploy eight Starlink satellite simulators. The Ship will undergo a stress test during reentry to assess its heat and pressure resistance. If the Ship survives reentry, it will attempt a soft, controlled water landing. Meanwhile, the Super Heavy booster will also attempt a soft, controlled water landing using a new engine configuration, a first for SpaceX.
SpaceX's first Starbase landing is expected in early 2026, depending on the 11th flight's performance. The company aims to reuse Super Heavy boosters and Raptor engines to reduce spaceflight costs. While there's no specific information about a planned landing on October 13, these tests are crucial steps towards SpaceX's broader space exploration plans.
