Spotlight on Innovators Transforming Mongolia's Future into a Digital Landscape, Highlighted by CNN's Blueprint
In the heart of Asia, Mongolia is experiencing a digital revolution. The capital city, Ulaanbaatar, is at the forefront of this transformation, with a burgeoning tech scene that's making waves both locally and globally.
One of the key players in this digital revolution is Tapatrip, a travel and transport platform designed to make exploring Mongolia more convenient for locals and tourists alike. CEO Erdenechimeg Davaasuren hopes to make Mongolia's first billion-dollar startup with Tapatrip.
Meanwhile, the ecommerce sector is also thriving. Shoppy, launched in 2017, integrates global marketplaces and serves as a ticketing platform for major events. Stora, another ecommerce platform, connects Mongolian consumers to products from Chinese and American marketplaces.
Navigating the urban landscape of Ulaanbaatar just got easier thanks to a local ride-hailing startup called UBCab. Using a custom mapping system, UBCab aims to improve urban navigation in the city.
CNN International, the number one international TV news channel, is also making its mark in Mongolia. As a Warner Bros. Discovery company, CNN International reaches more than 379 million households around the globe and has 36 editorial offices and over 1,100 affiliates worldwide through CNN Newsource.
The digital sphere is not the only area seeing innovation in Mongolia. IM Motors, under the leadership of Gantulkhuur Bekhbat, is championing a vision of an energy-independent Mongolia powered by sustainable infrastructure for electric vehicles. The first LEED Platinum-certified building in Mongolia, the "Monnis Building," houses the Monnis Group company.
Airee, a Mongolian startup, has developed the country's first biodegradable wool air filters to address indoor air pollution.
For those interested, a 30-minute special on these innovations, titled "Blueprint," will air on CNN. Airtimes for the special are: Saturday, 20 September at 12:30pm HKT, Sunday, 21 September at 11am and 6pm HKT, and Monday, 22 September at 1:30am HKT. You can find the trailer for "Blueprint" at this link and images at this link.
Mongolia, with a population of 3.5 million and 5 million active phone numbers, is proving to be a fertile ground for digital and sustainable innovations. As these innovations continue to grow and evolve, Mongolia's place on the global stage is certain to rise.
