In a groundbreaking move, Apple has unveiled the new iPhone 17 lineup on September 9, 2025, which includes the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Among these, the iPhone 17 Air stands out as a very slim and light model, boasting a 6.5-inch display, available in four vibrant colours, and featuring the A19 chip, a versatile 48 MP Fusion camera system, Center Stage front camera, and excellent battery life in a breakthrough design.

The iPhone 17 Air's battery is housed in the camera bump at the top of the device, known as the 'Plateau'. Interestingly, the rest of the housing is primarily reserved for the battery. The device boasts a thickness of 5.64 millimeters, making it significantly thinner than the standard iPhone 17 model (7.95 millimeters). This slim design is achieved, in part, through the use of titanium for the frame, despite Apple switching to aluminum for the Pro models due to heat dissipation concerns.

The iPhone 17 Air's camera offers a 2x optical zoom and does not have an ultra-wide-angle camera. However, it uses exclusively in-house developed semiconductors for its connection to the mobile network and Bluetooth, ensuring seamless connectivity.

The Air model is notable for being the thinnest iPhone ever at 5.6 mm thickness and 165 grams weight, contrasting with the Pro models' more advanced hardware and photographic capabilities. The Pro models, with their aluminum unibody and ceramic shield front and back, offer ProMotion 120 Hz always-on displays, up to 2TB storage options, and up to 36% longer battery life. They also feature triple-lens camera systems with telephoto zoom, Vapor-Chamber cooling, and an 8x optical zoom on the iPhone 17 Pro.

Apple's flat external battery can be attached magnetically to the back of the iPhone 17 Air via the Magsafe system, providing an additional power source. The external battery fits perfectly with the Air, but can only charge other iPhone models sideways due to the different camera protrusions.

The iPhone 17 Air's battery life depends on factors such as app usage, mobile signal strength, and environmental conditions. Initial tests suggest that the battery life is sufficient for everyday use, with Apple stating that one charge will last 'all day' and providing a benchmark of 27 hours of video playback.

In addition to the new iPhone models, Apple has also introduced the AirPods Pro 3. These new earbuds now feature a heart rate sensor, and boast improved noise cancellation capabilities. The newly designed AirPods Pro 3 can be used with different models, including the iPhone 17 Air.

Lastly, Apple's new crossbody strap can be used with various iPhone models, offering a convenient way to carry your device. The iPhone 17 Air passed a strength test under a load of 60 kilograms per square foot, bending but quickly returning to its original shape, demonstrating its robustness.

Pricing for the iPhone 17 Air starts at 1,199 euros, replacing the entry-level model of the Pro series. With its sleek design, advanced features, and competitive pricing, the iPhone 17 Air is set to be a popular choice for many consumers.
