Survey: German Car Owners Cautious on BEVs Despite Leasing Experience

A recent survey reveals insights into German car owners' attitudes towards battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). While 41 percent have leasing experience, only 16 percent are considering a BEV for their next purchase. Gasoline cars remain the top choice at 40 percent.

Two-thirds of respondents have never driven an electric car, with only 34 percent having experience. Concerns about higher costs and specialized workshops for maintenance and repair are common. Depreciation is also a factor, with three-year-old BEVs retaining only 49.5 percent of their original list price, compared to 63.4 percent for gasoline cars and 61.7 percent for diesel cars.

To boost private customer interest, companies like Sixt Electric and Nextmove specialize in BEV rentals and leases. They offer flexible options and dedicated customer service, aiming to promote e-mobility through positive driving experiences.

Despite concerns, 55 percent of those with leasing experience would consider a BEV. However, 69 percent are critical of battery disposal in BEVs. As BEV adoption grows, addressing these concerns and improving infrastructure will be crucial.
