Telekom's Fiber Optic Expansion in Giessen to Connect 13,600 Households by 2026

Telekom has initiated a significant expansion of its fiber optic network in Giessen, with work commencing in the city center since early August 2023. This project, backed by Mayor Frank-Tilo Becher, aims to connect 13,600 households and businesses to high-speed internet by December 2026.

Residents and property owners can verify if their address is part of the expansion plan at www.telekom.de/glasfaser. The project, anticipated to lay over 70 kilometers of fiber optic cable and install 71 new network nodes, promises speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second. This will substantially improve the city's digital infrastructure, benefiting both residents and businesses.

Telekom's Regional Manager, Oliver Knoll, urges early booking of tariffs to secure a free home connection. He cautions that delaying this may result in additional construction sites and connection fees in the future. The expansion is particularly opportune, given the average household's increased dependence on internet-enabled devices, with businesses also requiring high-speed internet to meet digital demands. In Giessen's city center, residents can currently arrange a glass fiber connection through TNG Stadtnetz GmbH, with a free home connection available until December 2025.

By December 2026, Telekom's fiber optic expansion in Giessen will provide 13,600 households and businesses with access to high-speed internet. This investment, supported by Mayor Frank-Tilo Becher, will boost the city's economic prospects and quality of life, keeping pace with the growing digital needs of its residents and businesses.
