Tesla Introduces New, Trimmed Model Versions in the USA - Tesla Launches More Affordable Model 3 and Y in US
Tesla has introduced more affordable versions of its Model 3 and Y in the US, following the expiration of federal tax incentives for electric vehicles. The 'Standard' variants offer a shorter range and fewer features than their pricier counterparts.
The new, stripped-down Model 3 starts at approximately $36,990 in the US, and the Model Y at about $39,990. Converting to euros, this is roughly €34,000 and €36,700 respectively, though prices may vary.
Tesla's decision to offer these trimmed-down versions instead of a new, cheaper model aligns with CEO Elon Musk's previous announcement of a $25,000 (around €21,445) vehicle. Market experts anticipate Tesla's sales may face pressure due to many purchases being brought forward before the tax credit expiration. Tesla delivered 497,099 vehicles worldwide in the last quarter, a 7.4% increase year-over-year.
The new, more affordable Tesla models aim to maintain competitiveness in the face of increased competition and the loss of federal tax incentives. However, Elon Musk has stated that car sales will no longer be the primary focus for Tesla, as the company shifts towards robotaxis and humanoid robots.
