Tesla Unveils Entry into India with Sleek Model Y and Electric Charging Strategies

The Tesla Model Y, the electric SUV that has been making waves globally, is now available in India. The redesigned Model Y will be introduced in two variants: the Standard Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and the Long Range Rear-Wheel Drive.

The Standard variant offers a WLTP range of approximately 500 km with a 0-100 km/h acceleration in 5.9 seconds, while the Long Range variant delivers up to 622 km range and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. Both variants have a top speed of 201 km/h.

The Model Y sports a sleek, minimalist design with a blanked-off front nose, LED light bars, flush door handles, and 19-inch blacked-out alloy wheels with aero covers. Its roofline slopes smoothly into the tailgate, giving it a sleek crossover silhouette.

The interior features a 15.4-inch infotainment touchscreen, an 8-inch touchscreen for second-row controls, ventilated seats, and a minimalistic cabin design. The car comes with dual-tone black and white upholstery (optional at ₹95,000) and standard color in Stealth Grey. Additional exterior colors are available at a premium between ₹95,000 and ₹1.85 lakh.

The Autopilot feature is an optional extra, and a Full Self-Driving package is available at an additional cost of ₹6 lakh. Through the Tesla Design Studio, customers can choose from multiple color and interior upholstery options, customising the car as per preferences, but many of these customisation options come with extra charges.

Tesla will provide a free wall connector with each new Model Y purchase for home charging. Deliveries of the Model Y are expected to begin in Q3 2025. Bookings are currently open in India.
