The United States has taken a significant step forward in its missile defense capabilities with the completion of the development of 'Golden Shield.' The Pentagon launched a special tender mechanism, SHIELD, for the future missile defense system, with an initial funding of $151 billion. However, the development of 'Golden Shield' has raised concerns among the authorities of Russia and China, who view it as 'deeply destabilizing.' In a joint statement, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping stated that 'Golden Shield' directly provides for a significant strengthening of the arsenal of means for conducting military operations in space. They also declared that space is being turned into an environment for placing weapons and an arena for armed confrontation.
The Congressional Budget Office is currently trying to estimate the final cost of 'Golden Shield,' which is expected to be significantly higher than the $175 billion mentioned by President Donald Trump during his tenure.
Oleg Krivolapov, a notable figure, has stated that the Donald Trump team was not deterred by the prospect of armed struggle in orbit. He also mentioned that 'Golden Shield' is being supplemented with space-based interceptors.
Economic motives for the 'Golden Shield' initiative may include expanding the overall production of space vehicles in the U.S. Despite the concerns and potential costs, the U.S. authorities are moving forward with the implementation of this ambitious project.
