TikTok's News Influence Surges in US, Now Reaching 20% of Adults
TikTok's influence as a news source has surged in the US. A recent Pew Research study reveals that 20% of adults now regularly get news from the platform, a significant leap from just 3% in 2020.
The shift is most pronounced among younger adults. Now, 25% of those aged 30 to 49 regularly get news from TikTok, up from a mere 2% in 2020. Among adults under 30, 43% regularly consume news on the platform. This growth is particularly notable given that 63% of teens have ever used TikTok.
However, the trend is not universal across all age groups. Only 10% of adults aged 50 to 64 and a scant 3% of those aged 65 and older regularly get news from TikTok. This indicates a stark generational divide in news consumption habits.
TikTok's rise as a news source is unprecedented. With 55% of its users now regularly getting news on the platform, it has outpaced other social media platforms in news consumption growth. This rapid evolution underscores the changing landscape of news consumption in the digital age.
