Time is manipulated by artist Antoine Birot's artistry.
In the Loire region of France, artist Antoine Birot is set to display his latest robotic installation, titled "Forces will move", at the 7th Recto VRso festival from April 11-14, 2024. This mechanical marvel consists of a mechanical arm driven by propellers and inertia, creating a mesmerizing visual, auditory, and temporal choreography.
The mechanical arm, when set in motion, produces a world of sound that reacts to the pulsations of its movements. Aaron Birot, the creator, explains that the sound is generated using sensors, microphones, and electroacoustic processing. Accompanying this, the arm's movement is projected onto a screen, where two virtual dots trace a luminous path, giving the impression of two comets escaping into space.
Birot's intention behind "Forces will move" is to make movement an expressive medium. He envisions movement as a language that, when visualized, can narrate different stories. Audiences find themselves drawn between contemplation and immersion, following the points of light and the melodies created by the installation.
Birot, originally a musician, began creating installations focused on movement and symbolism in 2005. His previous work, "Dancing is in my blood", used mechanical arms to create a modern ballet-like performance. With his installations, he seeks to liberate the creative process and establish a dialogue with society, often questioning our perceptions of reality.
During the Recto VRso festival, "Forces will move" will be showcased at the Art&VR Gallery, inviting viewers to reflect upon the installation's unique blend of art, technology, and perception. This latest creation is expected to push the boundaries of interactive art, integrating movement, sound, and visuals to evoke a sense of freedom and immensity.
The mechanical arm's movements generate a melodious sound utilizing sensors, microphones, and electroacoustic processing, demonstrating the fusion of technology and music. Antoine Birot's intention with "Forces will move" is to express stories through movement, effectively transforming it into a visual language.
