I recently paid a visit to Naim Audio's humble base, tucked away among big-box stores and car dealerships. Here, around 150 people work tirelessly, hand-building their top-tier components from scratch. Although they outsource all-in-one systems to another manufacturing facility, each piece of gear is a work of art in its own right.
Hand-built doesn't just apply to the components. In fact, Naim Audio takes pride in servicing nearly every model they've ever produced, from the early '70s to today. The saying frequently heard on the factory floor? "We do what we do because we love listening to music at home."
But that's not just music for the masses. Naim Audio's flagship home audio system is the Statement, a hefty power-and-preamp combo aimed at audiophiles willing to spend big for exceptional audio quality. Statement exudes quality, with a 260kg weight and a price tag that'll easily surpass a quarter of a million pounds for a full setup. High-rollers get a specialist installation and custom flight cases for transport.
Naim Audio's origins can be traced back to Julian Vereker, an engineer who founded the company in 1969. Vereker was known for his obsession with reproducing live music recordings faithfully. He soon found a kindred spirit in Ivor Tiefenbrun, whose company Linn made acclaimed turntables. The two quickly became partners, recommending each other's products to buyers and creating an unbeatable duo.
Naim Audio's entrance into the automotive world came in 2011, when it was acquired by the French audio group Focal. The acquisition gave Naim a larger platform and enabled it to deepen its collaboration with Bentley, a partnership which had already been strong since 2005.
Bentley has previously partnered with Sony for in-car audio, but the move to Naim Audio was a way to elevate the experience even further. Naim's premium audio systems can now be found in the 2014 Bentley Continental GTC Speed, the 2025 Bentley Continental GT Speed First Edition, and the Bentley Batur and Pininfarina Battista supercars, as well as on Princess Yachts.
