Town Hall-Taken Digital Passport Photographs
Rheinfelden and Herten are set to introduce a new digital passport photo system, marking an important step towards enhancing digital citizen services. The new system, which is already operational in Rheinfelden's Citizen's Office, aims to streamline the passport application process and improve efficiency.
The system, known as PointID, is suitable for adults and children aged four and above. It allows applicants to have their passport photos taken digitally on-site, using certified equipment that meets official biometric photo standards. The process of creating digital passport photos takes a maximum of five minutes.
From August 1st, the use of digital images for ID cards will be mandatory, and paper photos will no longer be accepted. Citizens can have biometric photos taken on-site for ID cards from this date. However, it's worth noting that paper photos remain valid for driver's licenses and health insurance cards.
The new digital passport photo system is also set to be installed at Herten town hall and the Foreigner's Office from August 1st. The cost for a digital passport photo is six euros in addition to the ID document fee.
Mayor Klaus Eberhardt described the new digital passport photo system as an important component of the digital citizen service. He emphasised that the digital photos are specific to the respective document and cannot be taken away.
For those who still prefer to have their photos taken by a photographer, it's important to note that a QR code for the application will be necessary.
To get exact details on the new system at these specific locations, including requirements, cost, or the policy on paper photo validity, it's recommended to contact the Rheinfelden Citizen's Office, Herten town hall, or Foreigner's Office directly or visit their official government websites for the most current and precise information.
