UK Government Boosts Rural Economies with £1.2m Transport Fund
The UK government has allocated £1.2m to the Rural Transport Accelerator Fund, aiming to boost community wellbeing, support rural jobs, and kickstart local economies. Eight projects have won £150,000 each to develop innovative rural transport solutions.
The winning projects span various rural areas, from Norfolk to Herefordshire and Suffolk to south east Scotland. One project, led by UrbanTide, will map rural hospital patient journeys to enhance transport services near Fife. Alchera Technologies will use data insights to create a behavioural travel model for Norfolk County Council's rural mobility decisions. You.Smart.Thing will develop a digital tool for shared, demand responsive, or community transport in Warwickshire.
Another winning project is a journey mapping tool to support health providers in delivering hospital transport. Civil Water Management will install recycled tyre drainage systems for safer cycling along flood-prone routes in Milton Keynes.
The Rural Transport Accelerator Fund has awarded £1.2m to eight innovative projects across the UK. These projects aim to improve rural transport, boost community wellbeing, and support local economies. The successful applicants will now develop their solutions, with trials set to take place in various rural areas.
