In a significant shift in the financial landscape, two major players - SharpLink Gaming and BitMine Immersion Technologies - have amassed more Ethereum (ETH) than the Ethereum Foundation, marking a new era for institutional investment in the cryptocurrency.

SharpLink Gaming, a publicly traded sports betting platform company, has become the world's largest corporate holder of Ethereum, with approximately 360,807 ETH, valued around $1.3 billion. The company has actively purchased ETH through a series of large acquisitions, including a record purchase of about 79,949 ETH at an average price of $3,238 each in mid-July 2025. SharpLink also deploys its ETH holdings into staking solutions, earning additional ETH rewards, thereby optimizing yield on its treasury.

BitMine Immersion Technologies, a private company, has also accumulated a significant amount of Ethereum, reportedly holding around 300,657 ETH with a value exceeding $1 billion as of late June/early July 2025. BitMine briefly held the position as the largest public Ethereum holder before SharpLink reclaimed the top spot through further purchases.

The strategic treasury management of these companies, their market opportunity, and staking rewards have played a significant role in their Ethereum accumulation. SharpLink has publicly announced its strategy of deploying 100% of its ETH into staking solutions, which generates ongoing ETH rewards and provides yield beyond price appreciation. BitMine, on the other hand, has an ETH-first strategy backed by former PayPal CEO Peter Thiel.

SharpLink has raised hundreds of millions in capital through its At-The-Market (ATM) equity offering to finance its Ethereum purchases, demonstrating access to capital markets to support ETH accumulation. The Ethereum Foundation, primarily a nonprofit organization focused on Ethereum development and ecosystem support, typically holds ETH for governance, development funding, and ecosystem grants rather than large-scale treasury investment or staking like these corporate entities. Therefore, its ETH holdings are comparatively smaller than the large, actively managed corporate treasuries of SharpLink and BitMine.

The large-scale accumulation of ETH by institutions like SharpLink and BitMine is a strong sign of confidence in Ethereum's structural upside. The Open Interest for ETH Futures has skyrocketed to $50 billion, and net inflows into ETH ETFs hit a weekly high of $2.18 billion, with total net assets soaring past $18 billion. The surge in both derivatives and spot inflows indicates that institutional capital is being deployed into ETH.

The price of ETH has climbed above $3,500, mirroring the increase in Futures Open Interest, further underscoring the institutional conviction in Ethereum. Ethereum has seen record inflows across Futures, ETFs, and corporate treasuries, reshaping how public markets interface with decentralized finance. BitMine Immersion Technologies' strategy brings Wall Street into Ethereum's decentralized ecosystem, marking a significant milestone in the cryptocurrency's journey towards mainstream adoption.
