The Foss Fairy Trail is preparing for an enchanting transformation as its website, thefossfairytrail.com, undergoes a significant update. This revamp aims to make the site easier to navigate, more mobile-friendly, and a welcoming space for all visitors.
At the heart of this update is the adoption of Full Site Editing (FSE) in WordPress. This shift from traditional theme and page builder methods to a block-based approach enables site-wide layout and style management. With FSE, editors can customize the site structure visually with less reliance on coding or external page builders, improving editorial control and collaborative workflows.
The key process and changes include adopting Full Site Editing concepts, converting the theme to a hybrid one that supports both classic and FSE features, creating reusable block-based templates and template parts, implementing theme.json for global styles, block styles, color palettes, typography, and layout options, and revising custom blocks as needed.
The Foss Fairy Trail committee is working closely with the website designer to ensure these updates reflect the heart and soul of the trail. Building custom template parts helps avoid repetitive edits in FSE, and fairy house photos will be uploaded to bring the trail to life online.

A brand-new fairy blog is being launched, with six fairy tales being crafted for the launch, each introducing a unique fairy from the trail. More fairy stories will be added to the blog after the initial launch.
