Vodafone inaugurates a fresh mobile facility in Lüssow
In an ongoing effort to improve mobile network coverage and capacity, Vodafone Germany has announced plans to expand and upgrade its mobile network infrastructure across various regions, including the Rostock district. While specific details about the expansion in Rostock by mid-2026 are not yet available, the communications conglomerate is making significant strides in enhancing its services.
Vodafone's Technical Director, Tanja Richter, emphasised the importance of a robust mobile network as a key factor for quality of life and the local economy, creating jobs in the process. The company's investments focus on 4G LTE and 5G technologies, with the aim of providing better connectivity to more communities.
Seven existing sites will see the addition of antennas for LTE and 5G, benefiting several local communities. Approximately 3,000 residents and guests have already been connected to Vodafone's mobile broadband network for the first time, thanks to the construction of a new site.
The expansion includes the deployment of eight new sites in Güstrow, Altkalen, Kirch Mulsow, and Reimershagen, aimed at improving mobile broadband coverage. Two communities, Bad Doberan and Teterow, will receive 5G upgrades to their radio sites.
Vodafone's commitment to sustainability is evident, as the company aims to be CO2-neutral by 2025 and emission-free by 2040, with electricity needs already covered 100% by renewable energies. The company's machine network (Narrowband IoT) for industry and business is operational on over 97% of the German surface.
The new mobile network stations, equipped with the latest technology, offer more than just improved connectivity. Features such as AML (Automatic Location Information) automatically transmit the caller's location to the emergency control center when dialling "112", ensuring quicker response times in emergencies. Additionally, the Cell Broadcast system allows the surrounding population to be warned via smartphone about danger situations such as large fires, gas explosions, or floods.
Vodafone's nationwide cable-fiber network reaches two-thirds of all German households with gigabit speed, demonstrating the company's dedication to delivering fast, reliable internet services. With 132 mobile network stations already operating in the Rostock district, all equipped with the mobile broadband technology LTE, Vodafone continues to invest in the region's connectivity.
