Volkswagen Clarifies China ADAS Stance: No Xpeng, Own Tech by 2026
Volkswagen has clarified its stance on autonomous driving technology in China, following a report from CarNewsChina. The German automaker has confirmed its commitment to developing its own ADAS technology in the country through a joint venture with Horizon Robotics.
VW has dismissed the notion of using Xpeng's XNGP driver assistance system in its electric vehicles. Instead, the company is focusing on its own developed technology for China. This comes as both VW and Xpeng are working on two mid-size SUV models, planned for launch in 2026.
VW's software unit, Cariad, was established in 2020 to create a uniform software platform for all corporate brands. Meanwhile, Xpeng is set to debut its XNGP technology in a mid-size SUV, developed in collaboration with the Chinese automaker.
VW has invested around €700 million in a nearly 5 percent stake in Xpeng, indicating a strategic partnership. Despite this, VW maintains its commitment to developing its own ADAS technology in China, aiming to introduce it in Chinese vehicles by 2026.
