Volocopter's Latest Asset: The VoloConnect Vehicle
Volocopter, a pioneering company in urban air mobility, has unveiled its latest creation - the VoloConnect. This manned eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft is designed for long-range and high-speed intercity travel.
The VoloConnect, currently in the research and development phase, is part of Volocopter's vision for intercity air mobility solutions. It aims to meet the high standards set by the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).
Volocopter, known for its autonomous flight technology, first demonstrated this capability in 2017. The VoloConnect, a hybrid mixture of helicopters and aircraft, flying with two wings and six propellers, is a testament to this innovation.
The VoloConnect can carry loads between 300 and 400 kilograms, operate up to 100 kilometers at an average speed of 180 km/h, and reach a maximum speed of 250 km/h. During take-off and landing, it has three wheels under the plane protruding from the fuselage for added stability.
Florian Reuter, CEO of Volocopter, aims to complete the certification process for the VoloConnect by 2026. Once certified, the VoloConnect is expected to accelerate the entry of similar vehicle concepts offering sustainable solutions and economic advantages into the market.
Volocopter, founded in 2011 by Stephan Wolf and Alexander Zosel, has investors such as Daimler, Geely, DB Schenker, and Intel Capital. In addition to the VoloConnect, Volocopter has other projects in urban air transportation, including the VoloCity model and the VoloDrone. The company also has technological initiatives related to urban air mobility.
Volocopter's first passenger flight with the VoloCity model was at CES 2018. Compared to the VoloCity model, the VoloConnect has a longer range, higher speed, and increased carrying capacity, making it ideal for intercity travel.
The launch of the VoloConnect is a significant step forward in the development of sustainable and efficient intercity transportation. As Volocopter continues to innovate and push the boundaries of urban air mobility, we can look forward to a future where travel between cities is faster, safer, and more eco-friendly.
- Volocopter, while aiming to complete the certification process for the VoloConnect by 2026, anticipates that once certified, this intercity air mobility solution will accelerate the entry of similar vehicles offering sustainable solutions and economic advantages into the transportation industry.
- With the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) setting high standards, Volocopter's VoloConnect, featuring its autonomous flight technology and hybrid design, is positioned at the intersection of aviation safety, technology, and finance as it strives for a future of sustainable and efficient intercity transportation.
