VR advocate Recto returns to Vancouver for the second year in a row

Experience a Virtual Art Extravaganza in Vancouver, Baby!

The second iteration of the Recto VRso festival has touched down in Canada's West Coast, hitting Vancouver by storm! Last year, digital art maestros who showcased their work at Laval's events jet-setted over to the Pacific coast to present their masterpieces. This year, things are a bit different, man. The program's got a makeover.

Dive into a Cybernetic Gaze

In 2019, the very first collaboration between the two cities mesmerized the public at the Alliance Française in Vancouver with digital art. This year's context has thwarted plans for another physical exhibition, but fear not! Artistic powerhouse and Recto VRso creator, Judith Guez, conjured up a fully immersive virtual gallery for us to explore in VR.

This virtual gallery, brainchild of the imaginative Judith, is populated by the digital brushstrokes of 16 international artists, leading you through a 3D replica of a chapel - the same setting graced by the initial Recto VRso exhibition back in April. Judith, in conjunction with fellow art explorers, resurrected this chapel in the digital realm to bring the virtual gallery to stunning, virtual reality life. The mastermind behind this digital renaissance was the Vancouver-based immersive media firm, Kreis Immersive.

Absolutely Free for a Mind-Blowing VR Experience

While last year's virtual gallery was accessible via the Recto VRso website's web version, this year, it's time to don your VR headset and dive into each artwork like never before, interacting with the content via a pair of controllers. This is the most in-depth art exploration experience you'll have in 2022.

"In 2020, we opted to create a multi-platform festival. The Recto VRso website serves as the portal to the various sections of the festival. [...] Access to the Recto VRso virtual gallery is available, offering a sneak peek at the artworks and an opportunity to virtually wander the planned scenography."

The virtual gallery is coming to the Alliance Francais website between October 2nd and 4th. The official launch of Recto VRso @Vancouver will take place on October 2nd. Artists will be on hand to chat about their work.

Fancy trying out the VR experience in your own abode? You can do that! If you're based in Vancouver, you can also drop by the Alliance Française offices to partake in the experience. Just remember to reserve your spot to make sure you don't miss out!

For those without a VR headset, fear not! There's a web version of the virtual gallery, offering a simplified but interactive glimpse of the exhibition, scenography, and artists. Check out the Recto VRso website and immerse yourself in this virtual art adventure!
