Walmart introduces temporary tattoo brand Inkbox in its physical store offerings for a limited period.
Inkbox, the popular temporary tattoo brand, has announced a new partnership with retail giant Walmart. This collaboration marks the first time Inkbox temporary tattoos will be available in Walmart stores.
The partnership is part of a growing trend among direct-to-consumer (DTC) brands, who are seeking to expand their reach by partnering with big-box brick-and-mortar retailers. Inkbox's temporary tattoos generated sales of approximately $30 million in 2021, making it an attractive addition to Walmart's assortment.
Inkbox's collaboration with Walmart is exclusive, featuring designs that are not available elsewhere. Each package in the exclusive collection contains two tattoo designs, providing consumers with the opportunity to express themselves and their creativity. The tattoos provide an authentic look that lasts one to two weeks.
Walmart is excited to welcome Inkbox to its stores. Walmart believes its customers will love the new temporary tattoos, which offer the look of a permanent tattoo without the commitment. The retailer is committed to expanding its assortment and bringing in new brands.
Inkbox's mission has been to allow individuals to celebrate their story and creativity in a new way through temporary tattoos. The brand has collaborated on exclusive designs with contemporary artists such as BTS, Post Malone, Keith Haring, and Rupi Kaur.
The Inkbox launch with Walmart represents an expansion of the in-store Inkbox collaboration and a fall expansion of the beauty aisle in select Walmart locations. The expansion will feature stand-alone displays and dedicated customer experiences in the beauty aisle of select Walmart locations.
The Inkbox temporary tattoos are made with Inkbox's patented For Now Ink. The company was acquired by pen-maker BIC for $65 million in 2022.
This partnership is not the first time DTC brands have established wholesale distribution partnerships with Walmart and Target. Both retailers target DTC brands strong in lifestyle, fashion, home goods, and electronics and tend to favor curated, premium, or private-label styles to fit their wholesale strategies.
Other DTC brands that have recently entered into wholesale agreements with Walmart and Target include home care brand Grove Collaborative, skin care brand Loops, and vitamin supplement company Care/of.
Inkbox President and co-founder, Braden Handley, stated that the partnership with Walmart is a way to expand its core base of consumers who want the look of an authentic tattoo without it being permanent.
The exclusive Inkbox collection with Walmart will be available on Walmart's website and in 1,500 stores. Walmart customers can now express themselves with the authenticity and quality of a permanent tattoo, but without the commitment.
