World's Largest Crane Vessel Sleipnir to Boost East Anglia Three Wind Farm
The world's largest semi-submersible crane vessel, Sleipnir, is set to make a significant contribution to the East Anglia Three offshore wind farm in the UK. Scheduled to arrive on site around 17 October, Sleipnir will place the offshore substation's topside onto its jacket foundation.
Owned by Heerema Marine Contractors, Sleipnir is renowned for its immense lifting capacity, making it an ideal choice for this critical task. The East Anglia Three wind farm, a joint venture between ScottishPower Renewables, Iberdrola, and Masdar, is expected to commence initial operation in late 2026.
Masdar, a prominent global renewable energy investor, acquired a stake in the project in 2021 and has since been co-investing with Iberdrola. The wind farm will feature 95 Siemens Gamesa turbines, each with a capacity of 14+ MW. Offshore construction began in April 2023 with the installation of the first monopile foundation.
The upcoming topside installation by Sleipnir marks a substantial milestone in the development of the East Anglia Three wind farm. Once operational, it will significantly contribute to the UK's renewable energy targets, providing clean power to thousands of homes.
