World's Tallest Bridge Completed in China: Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge
Engineers in China have completed the world's tallest bridge, the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, which opened on September 28, 2025. The bridge stands at over 2,050 feet above the Beipan River, surpassing the previous record held by the Royal Gorge Movie in Colorado.
The bridge, part of Guizhou Province's extensive building spree, stretches 4,600 feet long, making it the longest in a mountainous region. Its construction took nearly four years, involving stabilizing the gorge's unstable karst foundations. The bridge features a glass elevator, walkway, bungee platform, and a glass floor at the visitor center, offering stunning views of the canyon.
To test its strength, engineers rolled more than 90 heavy-duty trucks across its span. The bridge's height is more than twice that of the Eiffel Tower and higher than the Shanghai Tower when measured from the river below. It cuts the crossing time from two hours to about two minutes, transforming a previously arduous journey into a scenic, swift experience.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is a significant achievement in engineering and a major step in transforming Guizhou Province, one of China's poorest regions, into an economically active area. It stands as a testament to human ingenuity and China's ambitious infrastructure projects.
