YouTube introduces feature for TV viewers to directly access key moments
YouTube Introduces "Jump Ahead" Feature on TV Devices
YouTube's AI-based "Jump Ahead" feature, which initially launched for web and mobile users in May 2024, has now started rolling out for YouTube Premium subscribers on TV devices.
The feature, which helps skip past advertisements and less engaging content, is now available on various smart TV platforms, including NVIDIA Shield TV, Samsung TV, Google TV, and Android TV. The rollout is ongoing, with no specific date for a complete release across all users and devices.
On TVs, the implementation of the "Jump Ahead" feature differs slightly. Instead of showing a "Jump Ahead" button, a dot appears on the progress bar. Pressing the remote’s right arrow skips to the key moments identified by the AI.
Android Police and Android Authority have reported seeing the "Jump Ahead" feature in action on Google TV streamer and Nvidia Shield TV respectively. The feature uses AI to track viewing habits and takes users straight to the scenes most viewers tend to fast-forward to.
Prior to the update, double-tapping on YouTube skipped a few seconds ahead. However, the "Jump Ahead" feature offers a smarter jump to the parts people care about.
YouTube's official documentation confirms the feature is now available on "Living Room" devices, and reports indicate a gradual expansion across platforms rather than a simultaneous universal release.
