Zenobe Team Collaborates with Brampton City to Electrically Power Transit Buses' Fleet

The City of Brampton, Ontario, and UK-based fleet electrification specialist Zenobē have announced a groundbreaking partnership worth approximately C$4 billion (around $2.9 billion USD) to electrify Brampton Transit's bus fleet, serving Toronto's largest suburb[1].

Key partners in this ambitious collaboration include Zenobē, the City of Brampton, Canadian investment bank TD Securities, Canadian electric bus suppliers, and dedicated electrical and civil engineering teams based in Brampton. Technical experts and supply chain specialists from the UK will also contribute to the project[1].

The initiative aims to replace Brampton's diesel bus fleet with 1,000 electric buses, while maintaining support for current transit routes and over 40 million passengers annually. Infrastructure for the project's first phase is scheduled to go live in early 2027[1].

Zenobē will bring its extensive experience in the field to the partnership. The company, which boasts a 25% market share in the UK EV bus sector, will provide planning, design, software, supply chain relationships, and capital markets expertise for the project[1]. Zenobē supports over 2,000 electric vehicles worldwide and has delivered over 120 electric depots globally[1].

The partners also aim to bring 1,000 electric buses to the roads and replace diesel vehicles in Brampton. This collaboration is expected to facilitate the city's transition to zero-emission public transit fleets, empower sustainable transit growth without service reductions, and serve as a replicable model for other fleet electrification projects[1].

The project is expected to lower costs and reduce risks associated with the transition to zero-emission fleets through customized financing and proven expertise[1]. Zenobē offers financing, charging infrastructure, and a battery managed service as part of its end-to-end electrification solutions for fleet operators[1].

This collaboration not only accelerates Canada's electrification goals but also leverages Zenobē's UK success to deliver a large-scale public transit decarbonization model serving millions of passengers annually[1]. Steven Meersman, co-founder and Director at Zenobē, expects the Brampton project to serve as a model for other electrification projects[1]. The initiative will also bring C$1 billion of foreign investment into Canada.
