ZF's ACR8: Revolutionary Seat Belt System Enhances Safety Without Extra Certification
ZF has unveiled a revolutionary seat belt system, the ACR8, which actively shifts occupants into a safer position before a collision. This innovative technology, manufactured by Autoliv, enhances vehicle safety without additional NCAP certification for automakers.
The ACR8 uses information from the vehicle to build up belt force in a targeted manner. It interacts with emergency braking assist input for accurate belt activation. In an unavoidable accident, the system enhances the occupant's position for better protection.
The ACR8 can also serve as a haptic signal transmitter, warning or conveying information to the occupant. It provides a haptic warning to the driver by vibrating the belt webbing in case of a potential crash. The seat belt system and airbag work together, with the seat belt initially restraining the upper body and then releasing it towards the airbag.
ZF's ACR8 active belt tensioner improves occupant safety in critical driving situations. It reduces belt slack and fits the belt snugly against the occupant as soon as the seat belt is buckled up. Automakers can adopt this innovative system without separate NCAP self-certification.
